Lava Lava’s slogan is spot on ‘Get some sand between your toes!’ that’s what it’s all about when relaxing on the Big Island of Hawaii.
As caretakers living in Hawaii we work hard and live rent free, unfortunately we don’t make a ton of money. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a few of the more luxurious places, just like tourists do. Lava Lava is a beach club located in beautiful Waikoloa. They offer a fun, toes in the sand, laid back luxury experience complete with passionately inspired island cuisine and libations.
Lava Lava Beach Club is brought to you by the same people who bring you Huggo’s oceanfront restaurant in Kailua-Kona, as well as On The Rocks, a casual beach bar in Kailua-Kona, Paradise Gourmet Catering, the Big Island leader in custom events and weddings and Grass Shack Parties & Rentals, the go-to source for all local style affordable parties.
Nick and I enjoy the Lava Lava Beach Club in the late afternoon. It gets dark early here on the Big Island, between 6 -7 pm all year round, and watching the sun set with a cocktail in hand is very relaxing. Happy hour is from 3 – 5 pm with a nice selection of Pupus (appetizers) to choose from like Korean Chicken Wings, Tipsy Tots or Hikolau Chowder.
The staff at Lava Lava is always friendly and your glass will never be empty!
With toes in the sand and a gorgeous ocean view like this
you can’t go wrong at Lava Lava, especially at Sunset!
We haven’t enjoyed a meal at Lava Lava yet, but what we’ve seen on other people’s plates looks and smells delicious. Lava Lava features an open air setting with many seats directly on the beach and nightly entertainment.
Drawing upon an open air ambiance, swaying coconut trees, stunning sunsets and tropical trade winds, the restaurant features “relaxed island cuisine” and a varied menu with options for light dining on fresh fish tacos and burgers as well as the Chef’s creative preparations of steak, Hawaiian seafood and more upscale options.

Lava Lava Beach Club is located on Anaeho’omalu Bay in legendary Waikoloa Beach Resort. Set only 19 miles from the Kona International Airport at Keāhole (KOA), 25 miles from the historic town of Kailua-Kona and 20 miles from the green pastures of the “upcountry” and Waimea town (that’s where we live).
Are you living on the Big Island or planning a visit? Be sure to check out this beautiful and relaxing beach club. If you see us there, stop by our table and say ‘Hello Nick and Silke’. We love meeting friendly folks from all over the world.

Looks great. What are Tipsy Tot appetizers? I could sure get into someone bringing a drink and pupus about now, and it’s just barely lunchtime!
Hi Wilma, Lunchtime on Friday is perfect for drinks and apps on the beach, lol. Maybe you can get Dennis to be your cabana boy? Tipsy Tots are simply tator tots loaded with different cheeses, bacon and green onions. It’s an easy snack or party food to make at home.
