An inexpensive memory foam mattress that stands the test of time.
We’ve had our mattress in a box for a little over three years now and are very happy with it. Our 8″ Signature Sleep mattress is very comfortable and best of all, I don’t have a sore back when I wake up in the morning. There are many foam mattresses to choose from these days, in a variety of price ranges. But, a thicker, more expensive mattress doesn’t necessarily mean a better night’s sleep. You’re just laying higher up off the ground.
Check out our pictures and tips below to see how easy it is to unpack a mattress in a box.

The 8″ Signature Sleep mattress is very affordable at around $200, super comfortable, eco-friendly and helps minimize pressure on the body.
A memory foam mattress distributes weight evenly and provides balanced support no matter how much you toss and turn during the night. The Signature Sleep Memoir 8 inch mattress as seen in the picture above is made with a 2″ top layer of comfortable Memoir Foam, followed by 6 inches of high density foam. This allows for the mattress to mold to your body’s natural shape for a comfortable night’s sleep
Nick and I bought into the $1,000+ pillow top mattress while living in Minnesota, only to find ourselves waking up sore every single morning. We ended up replacing our expensive mattress after just two years. Due to the pillow top we couldn’t flip the mattress and it wore unevenly. Of course the warranty didn’t cover this.
Nick is quite a bit heavier than I am and I ended up laying on a little mount, while he was in the valley. This happened because he pushed his side of the mattress down over a short period of time. We even switched sides after a while all to no avail. I was very upset that we spent so much money on this high-end mattress and there was no way to fix it. What a waste of money!
Did you know? The life of a mattress varies wildly, which depends on how you take care of it, how you sleep on it and how often you rotate it.
When its time to replace our inexpensive mattress we have no qualms buying another 8″ Signature Sleep memory foam mattress in a heart beat.
Unpack Your Mattress In A Box
Getting your new foam mattress set up is very easy, simply follow these three steps:
1 – Unbox The Mattress
Your brand new mattress will arrive in a large cardboard box. Place the box flat on the floor of your bedroom or living room and pull the mattress roll out. Your mattress will be covered in two separate layers of plastic.

2 – Roll Out The Mattress
Cut the outer plastic bag along the seams with sharp scissors (don’t use a knife) and roll out the compressed mattress. Make sure to not cut the second plastic that is covering the mattress.

3 – Position The Mattress
Decide where you want to use your new mattress. Lay it on the floor, a Metal Platform Bed Frame or on top of a box spring. Carefully cut the plastic bag along the mattress edges and remove. Your mattress will now slowly expand.

It takes up to 48 hours for your new foam mattress to fully inflate!
- Allow your mattress to air out after opening the plastic coverings.
- Discard the plastic wrappings immediately to avoid any harm.
- You can rotate your mattress as needed.
- Use a cooling pillow top mattress pad for added comfort and to keep your new memory foam mattress stain free.
- Use an appropriate bed frame or make your own wooden pallet furniture.
- Your memory foam mattress can be spot washed with a damp cloth and water.
- Do not remove the protective mattress cover.
- Any wrinkles in your Signature Spring foam mattress will smooth out over time and with use.
- Mattress is certified flexible polyurethane foam made without ozone depleters, mercury, lead or formaldehyde.
All in all we are very happy with our 8″ memory foam mattress!

We also have a foam mattress that we purchased from IKEA about 2 years ago for roughly the same price. The Signature Sleep mattress is a little bit firmer and has held up longer so far (it’s a year older). We definitely prefer and recommend the Signature Sleep over the IKEA mattress at this point.
The Signature Sleep Memoir 8 Inch Memory Foam Mattress with CertiPUR-US certified foam is truly a great mattress for the price!

Thank you for this blog! I certainly would like to replace the one I am using at my daughter’s house as it is not supporting me as well as it should. I appreciate knowing that something like this exists and is doable without have a lot of fuss and trouble!!
I also found the blog on the one coat paint useful! Thank you for your experiences. Wish we could go sailing together again! That was a great time in Belize!
Best wishes!!
