How to Make the Best Cup of Coffee

While you may rush through making your cup of coffee in the morning, you surely realize that you are not making the best cup of coffee. You need to know the right steps in how to prepare coffee and what the best methods are.

First, let’s look into three methods of making coffee that you should know:

1. Pour Over

What is pour over coffee?” you may ask. This is a method of making coffee that makes an aromatic and incredibly delicious coffee. This method requires making coffee from scratch using coffee beans.

The first step is to boil your water in a kettle. As the water is boiling, you need to grind the beans until they reach a consistency resembling that of granulated salt. Next, you have to put a coffee filter in the brewer.

You then add the ground coffee beans to the filter. Once the water has boiled, pour it over the grounded coffee beans.

Your pour over coffee is ready, and we’re sure that you’ll love it!

2. The Drip

The Drip is perfect when you rush and need your quick coffee before starting your busy day. All you have to do is first ground your coffee beans. They should reach the consistency of that of table salt. Then you need to pour the coffee beans into a filter-lined filter basket. You then have to place it into a drip machine and pour water over the coffee beans.

You then add water to the back of the machine. Turn on the machine and let the coffee brew. Once it’s done, make sure you turn the coffee machine off immediately so that it doesn’t burn your freshly made coffee. When you finish drinking your coffee, make sure you clean the machine. About every 4 – 6 weeks you want to use water and vinegar to completely remove the coffee residue.

3. French Press

We also suggest that you purchase a French Press. This is a special kind of filter used as a popular way of making coffee in Europe.

Once you have your French Press, set it aside. First, you must boil your water in a kettle. Your coffee beans should be ground to resemble a consistency similar to breadcrumbs. Next, add them to the French Press.

Once the water has boiled, add it to the French Press. Stir it for about 5 minutes and then plunge the press. Your wonderful coffee is now ready!

Next, let’s learn what’s needed to always make great coffee.

4. Choosing Coffee Beans

A big part of making excellent coffee is choosing the right coffee beans. We always suggest buying at a coffee retailer rather than purchasing wholesale or at a supermarket.

We suggest experimenting with different types of coffee beans. There is no right or wrong flavor. We suggest that you first start with three different types of coffee beans. Eventually, as you experiment with different types of beans and different types of coffee-making methods, you’ll realize what works best for your tastes.

You should only purchase the coffee beans that are within your budget.

There is a certain elitism in choosing coffee beans! But you don’t need to unnecessarily splurge on the most expensive coffee beans or the most expensive brand.

Your primary focus should always be on purchasing the coffee beans that you enjoy.

5. Keep Your Coffee Beans Fresh

It’s imperative that you always keep your coffee beans fresh. Once you open the bag, it should be kept in an airtight container. If you have glass canning jars, this is the perfect option for storing your coffee beans.

Your coffee beans should also always be kept at room temperature. You should never freeze them or refrigerate them.

6. Don’t Go For Cheap Filters

When you do purchase coffee filters, you cannot go for the cheapest option. This will be of low quality and will ruin the coffee-making and drinking experience. You should always opt for a coffee filter that is oxygen-bleached and dioxin free.

You can also invest in a gold-plated filter that lasts longer. This way, you don’t have to constantly repurchase new filters.

7. Use the Right Amount

When you do make your coffee, it’s imperative that you always use the right amount so that your coffee is strong, flavorful, and to your liking. If you have a 6-ounce cup, then you should be using at least 2 tablespoons. For an 8 ounce cup, you can increase this to 3 tablespoons.

If you use less coffee and more water, your coffee will end up tasting bitter and will lose a lot of its flavor.

8. Make Sure the Heat is Right

If the water is too hot, it will lead to the overall taste being bitter rather than smooth. Ideally, your water should be boiled at 200°F. If you have a coffee maker, then this is done automatically.

Once your water has been boiled, you need to immediately begin the process of making the coffee. If there is excess water left in your kettle after making your coffee, it should be disposed of. Your next boil should have fresh water.

9. Keep Experimenting

Finally, we encourage you to always experiment with how you prepare coffee. When you make the transition to making your coffee in an intricate manner, it’ll take time for you to decide what’s best for your tastes.

Always try the different methods we mentioned to see which works best for you. Try out different flavors of coffee beans to determine which ones you enjoy the most.

  1. I totally agree that choosing coffee beans that are within your budget is important. For instance top-of-the-line Kona coffee will run you $70-100 per pound. On the other hand top-of-the-line Costa Rican coffee, which can be every bit as good as Kona, only runs about $18 per pound.
