When was the last time somebody read aloud to you?

When you were younger, maybe someone read children’s stories to you. It may have been just last week while commuting to work that you listened to an audiobook or a video on the read along book club channel. Either way, most of us can appreciate the memory of being read to and the fun it offers. Simply embracing the calming effect that listening to a story offers are reason enough to engage in this time-honored tradition.

Reading along to a story is a wonderful way for young bookworms to learn how to sound out words.

One of the many reasons we decided to create a read along video channel is the alarmingly high number of illiterate adults. Another reason is the birth of our first grandson and the fact that he lives far away from us.  We are both avid readers and what better way to share our love of books with him and our future grandchildren.

Introducing the Read Along Book Club video channel.

Our read along video series offers content for both children and adult learners.

The videos present a chance to follow along while the stories are being read. You can pause the video and replay any section over as many times as it takes to become fluent. No pressure and no one is judging.

We offer a growing list of books that we have already read and more stories are being added each week. Everyone, young and old, will be able to appreciate this time honored tradition. As we all know, reading aloud can benefit both the reader and the listener.

Finding enough time to read.

We appreciate the time it takes to actually sit down and read with our children. Even just five minutes a day makes a huge difference. But, if there isn’t time, than reading aloud should not be abandoned altogether! The Read Along Book Club offers listeners and language learners, a chance to browse through a selection of varying children’s books. From classic fairy tales to modern children’s stories, there is something for every reading level and age group.

The value in literacy and reading aloud.

It may astonish many people to know the actual number of illiterate people in this country. According to Emily Schmidt from APM Research Lab, there are an estimated 130 million adults in the U.S. that have low literacy skills. This is based on a Gallup Analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education. This number is even more astounding because it happens in a developed nation that prides itself on its educational system.

From being able to read basic instructions for filling out a job application, to reading comprehension and following written guidelines, we must prepare our children for their future.

Sending children off into their adult lives without being able to grasp simple written instructions can be frustrating for all parties involved. Like someone who is of cognitive mind, but unable to communicate with those around them, so will young adults struggle to adapt.

Getting past the barriers of becoming a fluent reader.

One of the reasons why so many people quit anything is because it’s too hard. It takes time, effort and the participation of the reader to get better and more fluent at reading.  Another popular reason for not reading enough, is some early learners simple don’t have enough time to devote to the task at hand.

Enter the Read Along Book Club, this video channel offers a fun and self guided learning experience. As a passive participant enjoying the story, your children will be engaged learners without even realizing it. Second, if time is an issue, then what better way is there than to listen to read along stories that are already recorded and ready to be played? Read along video books can be listened to and watched on any device during any time of the day or night.

The audio books and videos we listen to on a daily basis are a valuable way to becoming a better reader and being involved in our own and our children’s future. We will continue to create read aloud books and will hopefully build a community of loyal readers. We hope to see you on our video channel soon!
