Thinking things through with a Journal

This month the Sexyshoesexpert is having a  ‘Journal and Pen’ giveaway.  If you have ever considered keeping a journal then here is the perfect opportunity for you to try and score a free one. Even if you already have a journal, would an extra one hurt? Why do we keep journals and what purpose do they serve? I thought a closer look at the whole journal experience might be in order to shed light on the role they serve.

Definition of JOURNAL by Merriam-Webster
a : a record of current transactions; especially : a book of original entry in double-entry bookkeeping b : an account of day-to-day events c : a record of experiences, ideas, or reflections kept regularly for private use d : a record of transactions kept by a deliberative or legislative body.

Journal and Pen Giveaway - High Heels for WomenThere is something cathartic about keeping a record of your own private and personal experiences. Think of it as an outlet for your mind. Personally, I like to read before I go to bed. This exercise allows me to clear my mind so I can sleep better. How many nights would I lay there reviewing the days events or working on problem solving all while trying to fall asleep? The benefits of writing these thoughts out into a journal would be more beneficial than reading.

By writing these thoughts out I would be able to; clarify my goals, simplify my life, and get whatever is on my mind into a perspective that allows me to express it in a written form.
More benefits abound and Silke can attest to them. While working on quitting smoking, she is

using her journal to ward off temptation. By writing out “I want to quit smoking!”, and filling in the true meaning of what it will take to actually quit, she will then begin to formulate a working plan to help her attain her goal. A journal can transform thoughts and ideas into real actions.
Many of the blogs posted on Jagerfoods have formulated from random thoughts and actvities that happen throughout the day. That said, I can’t begin to tell you how many are simply lost because I can’t remember them all. By keeping a journal of ideas that occur I would have a wealth of article ideas that would never end. Here are a list of famous people who kept a journal/diary:

  • Bob Dylan, musician
  • Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer
  • Kurt Cobain, musician
  • Anne Frank, diarist
  • John Adams, 2nd President of the United States
  • John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the United States
  • Beatrix Potter, childrens novelist

A journals benefits can help anyone and its rewards are endless. Do you currently keep a journal? Share with us your experiences and let us know the benefits that you receive from this creative outlet.
