3 Fun DIY Projects For Backyards

Three of my favorite budget-friendly garden and backyard DIY projects!

It doesn’t matter if you have a large backyard, garden or just a small balcony or walk-out, here are 3 DIY projects that are fun and easy to make, and will add a personal touch to your outdoor living space.

Lady Bug Golf Balls

Unlike the pesky Asian Beetles, Lady Bugs are good for your plants and garden. So, the next time you find yourself near a golf course, look around the bushes and you’re sure to find a few lost golf balls. Take them home, wash them to remove any loose dirt and turn them into cute Lady Bugs.

Use red acrylic paint to paint the base and add little black faces, a line down the middle of the back and dots. Voila, you have yourself a lady bug! Visit Art Drops for more detailed directions.

Brighten Up Your Patio

Do you have a tiled patio or walkway that could use some sprucing up? How about adding a pop of color to a few select tiles. It’s easier than you might think. Here’s how:

Use latex porch and floor paint in several different colors (look for sample or pint sized cans). It is best to prime the tiles first with Kilz primer, then paint two to three coats of color on each tile. Seal the tiles with Clear-Seal concrete protective sealer. Go from a drab backyard to a fabulous outdoor space in a matter of hours. Check out more pictures here.

Outdoor Cupcake Lights

Add a sweet little decorative element to your backyard, with these outdoor cupcake lights. Simply run a regular string of lights and then cover the light bulbs with cupcake liners. Using a sharp knife or scissors to make a cross cut in the bottom of each liner.

Note: if you use paper liners you will need to remove them at night or whenever it rains. Cupcake lights are great for short-term outdoor entertaining. You can use different colors and designs for each bulb or just make them all the same. This is a clever way to decorate your outdoors without spending a lot of money.
